Frisco City is a rapidly growing suburb of Dallas, TX. In 2007, Forbes magazine listed it as the seventh fastest growing suburb of the United States. The 2000 census recorded a population of 33,714, while the 2008 census is estimating a population of over 100,000 residents. Frisco has many rewarding attributes which make it appealing to people of all backgrounds.

Founded in the early 1900s, Frisco developed around a train stop along the St. Luis- San Fransisco Railway from which it takes its name. It has since grown, and its current total area is 70.0 square miles. It has a population density of 482.4 people per square mile. The majority of the population is white; however, African American, Native American, Pacific Islander, Asian, and Hispanic/Latino populations are also living in the area. According to the census there are 12,065 households, with 46.7% having children 18 years or younger. The majority of the population is in the age bracket 25-44, with a median age of 31 years. The female to male ratio is quite close, with on average 96.2 males for every 100 women over 18.

Frisco adopted Home Rule in 1987. It was revised in 2002, with 19 propositions added. Frisco has a Council-Manager form of government, which consists of a Council-Manager, Mayor, and six City Council members elected at large.

The Frisco Economic Development Corporation (FEDC) is funded by a percentage of local sales tax. It’s purpose is to reallocate tax dollars to commercial purposes. Additional forms of retail investment include local malls, an IKEA, and

Frisco has many educational opportunities for to its young population. There are four high schools, and more are approved for construction. All are expected to be classified as 4A institutions, encouraging students to participate in recreational activities in addition to their studies. Three higher educational facilities, including a community college and a baptist university, are also in the city. These institutions offer a strong and diverse educational experience.

As a city, Frisco has many local areas of interest. There is a new City Hall under construction, a main library, and a public commons located in Frisco Square, which is being called the new downtown. There are also local malls, an IKEA store, and Preston Road, a main street running north-south in the city, which features a variety of restaurants and retail stores. The Frisco Athletic Center offers both indoor and outdoor aquatic areas, upscale equipment and convenient hours. Other popular sport clubs in the city include baseball, soccer, indoor football and ice hockey. Both the baseball and the hockey club have won championships.

Frisco is a city well suited to young individuals with or without families and offers a wide range of activities for its residents. Much retail space and development brings local flavor to the city and develops a unique personality for a bustling community. Located close to Dallas, it provides easy access to a large city.
