How Pro Rated Rent Affects Me
Have you moved into your apartment home and the leasing agent starts using the term pro-rated rent? We will go over what this actually means and if it really does work towards your advantage. Read on to discover some tips on how pro-rated rent can assist you.

Are You Moving In The Middle Of The Month

The most likely event whereby you will be paying pro-rated rent will occur when you take occupancy of your apartment home. You wouldn’t be too happy about paying for a full month’s rent if you moved in on the 15th of the month? So in this case you will only pay for the days that you actually use in the partial month. For example, if you move into your new apartment home on September 16 instead of on the 1st, you will only be charged for 15 days.  Then when October 1st rolls around, you will pay for the normal rent amount listed in your lease contract.  Just take your rent amount and divide it by 30 days to get your daily amount. Then multiply it by the number of days you will be occupying the unit.

A Different Pro-Rating Example

Other times apartment leasing agents or managers will use the term pro-rating in a different way. Maybe you saw an advertisement on the Internet that said new renters receive up to 2 months free.  Many of you may think that you just won’t pay rent for the first 60 days. But most complexes will simply factor in your 2 months free over the length of the entire lease.  We will use a brief example how this will work. Suppose you sign a 12 month lease for $600 per month and you receive 2 months free. You simply take $600 and multiply the number by 10. This amount is $6000. Not you divide the later number by 12. This should give you a final number of $500.

Will Paying Pro-Rated Rent Put Me at a Disadvantage?

Paying pro-rated rent is simply paying for the days that you will occupy the unit. If you don’t want to move until the later part of the month, then this would be advantageous for you. Some leases will allow you to move out in the middle of the month too. But be sure and go over this with your landlord.

Just remember that when you come across the term pro-rated rent that you understand how much rent you will be paying. Learn more about leasing Conroe apartments and Conroe apartments for rent.
