How To Check Out A Future Apartment Roommate
Sharing an apartment with a roommate can be an extremely enjoyable experience. And splitting bills down the middle can really save you money over an extended period of time. Many renters feel they have met the person who may be their roommate over a 12 month period. But they are not 100% sold on the fact that this person will pay their portion of the rent on time and respect them.  The question is how you can feel confident that this person will act responsible and full of integrity.  We have listed some tips about how you can get a read on the person who might be living with you in your next apartment home.

Have A Discussion With Your Potential

There is nothing easier than just sitting down and having a normal conversation to express and questions and concerns you have.  Don’t worry about asking too many questions. The potential roommate should also want to question you as well. After all both of you will be occupying the same general unit for likely a year.

A good idea might be to write down all of your questions that are important to you. Maybe you don’t want someone living with you who is a smoker. Also what about pets? Will this individual have friends over? Also what kind of hours do they keep.

Make Sure You Have References

Take some time and do a little research. Almost everyone has a Facebook page, and you can get some information about them here.  But you also want people you can talk with you have either lived with this person and can give you some comments. If they cannot provide you with someone to talk with, they will need to explain why. Remember that if they get defensive, this is usually a red flag that something is not right.

Think About A Background Check

If your really concerned all you have to do is run a background check. You will have to pay a fee for this service of course. But in the long run it could help prevent you from making an awful decision.

Make Sure Its In Writing

Drawing something up in writing is a great way to hold someone to their word.  Things you will want to put in the agreement include having guests over for an extended period of time, who is responsible for cleaning common areas, and paying bills.

A lot of time money is at the center of many roommate disputes.
