Houston does not have many high rise apartment homes for rent compared to other major cities like miami. The majority of Houston High Rise apartments are in the most expensive and most popular sections of town. Outside of Downtown the only areas you can secure High rises are the River Oaks and Galleria areas. Of course High Rises come at a premium and you should expect to pay more than a standard apartment community. Outside of the inner loop areas you will not find any high rises whatsoever.
Since I am not an apartment developer I can only speculate that there is no demand for these sorts of communities. But if we take into account other large cities such as Chicago or Los Angeles; how many High Rises exist outside of a Downtown area. I would be willing to bet there are few and far between. Houston is a large metropolitan area, but it is spread over many many miles. The norm is Houston is either apartments or single family homes. Not until recently has Houston seen unique developments including Lofts in the area. And again lofts are confined to the same areas as the High Rises are.
The two lofts properties in the River Oaks area are the River Oaks High Rise and The Cabochon at River Oaks. Both high rises are actually pretty old and were built in the late 60’s or early 70’s. They have both recently been remodeled though. If you enjoy the Houston Galleria area the Dominion Post Oak and 1200 Post Oak are two extremely nice and new high rise communities for rent.
