Katy, Texas is a suburb of Houston located along Interstate 10 just east of downtown Houston. The city was named for the old Missouri – Kansas – Texas railroad (known as the K-T) that ran through in the eighteen hundreds. Katy was formerly called Cane Island from the Cane Island Creek that runs through it and the fact that one of the largest crops grown in the area was once sugar cane.
Several businesses have their corporate headquarters located in or just outside of Katy, including the Igloo Corporation, Academy Sports & Outdoors, and KBR. Katy has several recreational and cultural facilities including the Katy family YMCA and Forbidden Gardens. This outdoor museum depicts many great moments of Chinese history and has a display of the first emperor’s terra cotta army done to 1/3 scale.
