Pearland, Texas, originally named Mark Belt, is located just to the south and east of Houston. It was originally a mail stop on the on the journey from Houston to Galveston by rail. Named for a landowner who sorted mail going into Galveston, the city was founded in 1894. The name was later changed to Pearland in honor of the fruit trees planted about town. Today, Pearland is one of the fastest growing suburban communities in the entire country. According to data from the 2000 census, the population was 40,000. Today, the estimated population runs closer to 70,000.

The economy of Pearland is not based very heavily on local employment. The Pearland School District is the single largest employer. Wal Mart also employs several people, but it is a very distant second to the school. Many residents work at the Texas Medical Center. The rest commute into Houston. Hwy 288 connects Pearland and Houston and is an ideal commuter route due to much less traffic than other main arteries.
Pearland is ideally located, with NASA’s Houston Mission Control facility, the Kemah Boardwalk on Galveston Bay, and Clear Lake all being within just a few minutes travel. The boardwalk is a popular destination for both residents and tourists as it offers a wide variety of fine dining and entertainment options. Live concerts are also offered there from time to time.

There are not very many apartments in Pearland and finding a vacancy may be somewhat difficult. The popularity of this area makes it possible for landlords to charge very high rates for rent. Single bedroom units often start out in the high nine hundred dollar range. These are, however, some of the most luxurious properties in the greater Houston area.

Most units have private driveways and direct access garages attached. All units have alarm systems wired in during construction. They also include full size washer dryer combos. Amenities available to the residents include a resort style swimming pool with a cabana, a putting green, and a modern fitness facility offering cardio and strength training equipment. These amenities are available to all residents.

Low income units are also available, though without the luxuries associated with the more expensive apartment complexes. Very strict limits are placed on acceptance into these units based on income. If a person makes more than the posted limit, these apartments are not available to him.

Pearland, Texas is one of the fastest growing suburbs in the country. It is situated in an ideal location for people who work in Houston to commute with only light traffic making the journey more pleasant than that of commuters from other communities. Entertainment options are abundant with Houston and Galveston both being nearby.

Pearland apartments are extremely luxurious and come at a premium price. Vacancies are few and far between, so finding an apartment may be difficult. Units are available to people with low incomes as well, though not as luxurious as the standard apartments.
